UC council to meet

The Messenger. 11.14.08 Union City’s city council will meet Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Municipal Building courtroom. Items on the organizational activities agenda include an election of a temporary chairman, an election of the mayor for a two-year term, an election of the mayor pro-tem, consideration of council operating policies, the selection of a council member to serve on the Union City Electric Power Board and of a member each to serve with the mayor as members of the Union City Municipal-Regional Planning Commission and the Obion County Industrial Development Corp. board of directors, the selection of a council member to serve as a member of the Union City Board of Zoning Appeals and of two members to serve on the Obion County Chamber of Commerce Board of directors and the selection of a member to serve on the Obion County Fair board of directors and a member to serve on the Union City Youth Athletic Alliance board of directors. A public hearing is planned for 5:30 p.m., as well. Items on the agenda include a discussion of amendments to the appropriations ordinance. At the regular business meeting, which will follow, the council will consider an amendment to the appropriations ordinance, an agreement with Solutia Healthcare (TAS) Inc. for collection of unpaid fines and court costs, a report from Union City Insurance about the renewal of employee health insurance and a report on bids for the purchase of a police patrol vehicle. The meeting is open to the public.
