Charges upgraded in fatal boating accident

Posted: Tuesday, July 21, 2009 3:00 pm

A Woodlawn man accused of boating while intoxicated will face additional charges as a result of the July 3 fatal accident on Kentucky Lake.
David Phelps, 37, was allegedly driving his bass boat at a high rate of speed while intoxicated when he crashed into a pontoon boat near Paris Landing.
Martin-native and Westview High School graduate Sandra Renee Adams, 47, of Murfreesboro was killed during the collision.
Phelps was initially charged with boating under the influence by T.W.R.A. officers.
During a court appearance on Thursday in Henry County General Sessions Court, Phelps was also charged with vehicular homicide and reckless boating.
His bond was also increased by $100,000 according to the HC General Sessions Court office. Phelps is free on bond. His attorney is Jeff Grimes of Clarksville. His preliminary hearing was reset to 1 p.m. on Aug. 18.
Adams’s 16-year-old daughter was also injured in the accident.
