9-under just enough
to win ‘Pop’ event

Poplar Meadows Country Club held its weekly men’s scramble Wednesday with the winning team shooting 9-under par.
Members of the winning team included Larry Shanks, Houston Haag, Tom Elam, Don Lyerly, John Hale and Tim Shanks.
Finishing in second at 8-under par was the team of Ron Cooper, Portis Tanner, Bart White, Wynn Burnett, Lynn Jenkins and Dave Frankum.
The scramble, which is $10 for members and $15 for non-members, includes the 9-hole event and dinner afterward.
It begins at 5:30 p.m. each Wednesday and participants are encouraged to call the club by 5:15 each week. For more information, call 885-3650.

OVC baseball finals
return to Jackson

The Ohio Valley Conference Baseball Championship will be held May 23-27 at Pringles Park in Jackson.
This marks the third year in a row the event has been held at Pringles Park, which is the home of the Jackson Generals, the AA affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. This year the six-team, double-elimination tournament marks the 34th OVC Baseball Championship.
All tickets for the event are general admission and are $10 per day or $30 for an all-session ticket. OVC students and faculty with valid ID’s can purchase tickets for $8 per day or $25 for an all-session ticket.
Parking for the OVC Baseball Championship is free.

Group rates ($8 single session, $25 all-session) are also available by contacting the Ticket Office.
Pringles Park opened in 1998 and has a seating capacity of 6,000. The venue hosted the 1999 and 2011 Southern League All-Star Games. Pringles Park also has luxury suites, a video board and merchandise shop.

Caldwell shoots ace
at Wynridge course

Pete Caldwell carded a ‘one’ on his round of golf at Wynridge Golf Club recently.
Caldwell fired a hole-in-one on No. 16 Wednesday, using a 7-iron on the 145-yard hole.
Witnessing the shot were Mike Gray, Robert Calloway and Vinson Thompson.

UT’s Jennings
slated to retire

KNOXVILLE (AP) — Tennessee associate athletics director for media relations Debby Jennings has announced she is retiring after 35 seasons as the media relations contact for the Lady Vol basketball program.
The university said Eric Trainer, who has spent the last 15 years at Tennessee, has assumed the role of primary contact for the program. He is currently contact for the track and field and cross-country program in addition to coordinating logistics for women’s home basketball games.
